Résumé
Howard M. Tanner. FRSA

Personal Statement:
I believe effective Industrial Design to be the most successful interaction of art and science. A complex concept deterring use, my designs are predicated upon a user’s optimal interaction with the subject product and the technology it comprises. My products are simple in conception, and their use is both intuitive and a pleasure.
Always stimulated by the requirements of a design brief and routinely without specific prior experience in a program’s subject area, my creativity, engineering instinct, knowledge of materials, processing and industrial experience have, working collaboratively with client or employer teams, enabled the discovery of original, IP-worthy product answers to the most demanding, adventuresome design questions and, to their commercial success.
Professional Capabilities:
With employer or consultant design teams my program-determined design responsibilities have included:
• Basic research and Product definition
• Concept sketching…analog,
• Concept modeling…SolidWorks/KeyShot
• Concept model creation…rapid prototyping/machining/
foam core
• Physical testing/product refinement/vendor enquiries
• 2D/3D product documentation/IP prima-preparation/
material processing/specification to manufacturing
release
Design Innovations:
With others, my skill-set has enabled the creation of the first:
• pluggable laser fiber…HGM Medical-UT
• adoption of TEM-01(doughnut-mode) laser with
ultrasound visualization to treat Trans Urethral
Prostatectomy (TURP)…Sorenson Medical UT
• planer peristaltic pump and cartridge for patient
controlled pain management…Sorenson Medical-UT
• minimally-invasive laser-based intervention
incorporating unique sutures to treat Abdominal
Aortic Aneurisms…Endo-Vascular Associates-MD
• sound limited/vibration attenuated home
fragrancing product…Client-WI
• cartridge-based water purifiers using fully
saturated brine…Pentair-WI
• Ring-needle-based tattoo removal system with
vibration attenuating grip…Rejuvatek Medical-UT
and the awarding of
• 30+ patents in areas of medical, consumer, commercial
and engineering product development that both
enhanced the IP-owner’s corporate valuation and
generated product licensing revenues

Rejuvatec - SLC, UT 07.2021 - 05.2023
Research Designer
For the tattoo removal industry and with collaborators investigated methodologies to • simplify/speed
procedure set-up • foreshorten treatment cycle and make treatment outcomes less medical-technician
dependent • make technician/client experience more comfortable • simplify post treatment procedures
PENTAIR - Milwaukee, WI 09.2018 - 06.2021
Design Specialist
With collaborators created • next generation domestic/commercial water treatment/related treatment
methodologies • new brine-based Point-of-Entry water softener technique • cartridge-based Point-of-Use
water purifier • performance and cost improvements to legacy products
DESIGN MATTERS - Wauwatosa, WI 05.2016 - 09.2018
Principal
With colleagues/collaborators designed/developed • external packaging elements of a Medical Imaging
System (Techniscan) incorporating Warm Bath Ultrasound technology • an electric Hobbyist Hand Tool
(Bosch/Dremel) • a battery powered Portable Dialysis Pump and a Pain Management Device (Sorenson)
• a range of Watering Cans and Tea Kettles (Henkel) • a Centennial-Honoring Vacuum Jug (Thermos)
